This transformative lighting landscape project turned a renowned European botanical garden into a mesmerizing nocturnal wonderland for three consecutive winter months. The installation featured thousands of LED tree wraps, illuminated flower sculptures that mirrored the garden summer blooms, interactive pathway lights that responded to visitor footsteps, and a central lake with floating lotus lanterns. Rather than overpowering the natural beauty, the lighting design enhanced the garden existing architecture, creating a harmonious dialogue between horticulture and light art.
The primary challenge was illuminating a living botanical garden without harming delicate plant life. Every light fixture required low-heat LED technology, and installation had to be completed without disturbing root systems or dormant vegetation. The garden historic pathways also demanded non-intrusive mounting solutions that preserved the landscape integrity while delivering reliable outdoor performance through rain, frost, and wind.
Our design team spent six weeks on site conducting detailed surveys of every tree, pathway, and water feature. The result was a zone-based lighting narrative that guided visitors through distinct experiences: an enchanted forest with dappled light filtering through canopy, a rose garden where illuminated flower sculptures bloomed after dark, a bamboo grove with responsive light pillars, and a grand finale at the central lake featuring floating lanterns synchronized with gentle music. Each zone used a carefully calibrated color palette that shifted throughout the evening, creating different moods as visitors progressed.

Installation was completed in 14 days by a team of 18 technicians, working exclusively during daylight hours to minimize disruption to garden operations. All electrical systems were buried underground with IP68 waterproof connectors, and every fixture was mounted using non-invasive clamp systems that required no drilling into trees or structures. The entire installation ran on a single DMX512 control system, allowing precise programming of color transitions, timing sequences, and interactive responses.
The night illumination drew over 200,000 visitors during its three-month run, a 340% increase compared to the garden typical winter attendance. Visitor satisfaction surveys showed 96% positive ratings, with 82% stating they would recommend the experience to friends and family. The garden reported a 45% increase in membership sign-ups and a 60% increase in gift shop and cafe revenue. The installation has since become an annual tradition, with our team designing fresh themes and new illuminated sculptures each season.
