Safety First, Always
A safe custom lantern festival is a successful one. With thousands of visitors navigating illuminated pathways after dark, comprehensive safety planning is essential. This guide covers the key safety and operational considerations.
Electrical Safety
All our lanterns use low-voltage (12V/24V) LED systems, eliminating shock risk. Main power distribution uses GFCI-protected circuits with weatherproof enclosures. Cables are routed underground or elevated to prevent trip hazards. We provide complete electrical schematics and load calculations for fire marshal approval.
Fire Safety
All materials are flame-retardant treated. No open flames are used — LED "flame" effects replace real fire. Fire extinguishers are placed every 30 meters, and evacuation routes are clearly marked with emergency lighting. We provide fire safety documentation required for event permits.
Structural Safety
Every lantern structure is engineered to withstand local wind loads. Large pieces are anchored with ground stakes or weighted bases. We conduct daily structural inspections during the festival run. In extreme wind (>40 mph), we implement temporary takedown procedures for the largest pieces.
Visitor Flow & Crowd Management
Festival layout is designed with one-way circulation, minimum 3-meter pathway widths, and designated viewing areas at popular pieces. Capacity monitoring prevents overcrowding. Entrance/exit points are separated, with queuing systems for peak times. We recommend 1 staff member per 250 visitors for crowd management.
Weather Contingency
While all lanterns are IP65 waterproof, extreme weather requires contingency plans. We recommend: weather monitoring with 24-hour alerts, lightning evacuation procedures, rain plan (some pieces may be temporarily covered), and heat/cold protocols for staff and visitors.
Daily Operations Checklist
- Pre-opening: electrical test, structural check, pathway cleanup, staff briefing
- During operation: roving maintenance team, crowd monitoring, lost child protocol
- Post-closing: equipment shutdown, security walkthrough, maintenance log update
- Weekly: full electrical inspection, fabric tension check, LED replacement as needed
Insurance & Permitting
We recommend general liability insurance ($2M minimum), product liability coverage, and worker's compensation for installation staff. Permitting typically requires: event permit, electrical permit, fire marshal inspection, and possibly zoning approval. We provide all technical documentation to support your permit applications.
